Requirements for CAP Chaplaincy
A CAP chaplain must become a CAP Senior Member, which includes completing a fingerprint card, background check, and payment of national and local dues.
CAP Regulation 80-1 *(Coming this year) states that a chaplain must be a fully ordained or qualified priest, rabbi, or minister of religion, and receive an ecclesiastical endorsement from a faith group approved by the National Conference on Ministry to the Armed Forces (NCMAF) prior to appointment as a chaplain.
Chaplains must also have a Bachelor's degree and have completed a 72-semester hour (108 quarter hour) graduate degree program in the field of theological or related studies from a qualifying accredited educational institution. A waiver may be granted to those who do not meet the graduate study requirement providing they meet all other requirements and present proof (resume) of at least five years of full time or equivalent ministry experience as a pastor, rabbi, or similar role within their denomination.

How to become a CAP Character Development Instructor
Character Development is a required part of the CAP Cadet Program, and cadets must participate in Character Development sessions in order to promote. Character Development Instructors are a part of the CAP Chaplain Corps and provide this important training to the cadets within their local unit.
A CDI must become a CAP Senior Member, which includes a fingerprint card, background check, and payment of national and local dues.
CAP Regulation 265-1 states that a CDI must have completed the Training Leaders of Cadets (TLC) seminar, the CAP Basic Instructor Course, and obtain a letter of recommendation from a reputable member of his or her local community who verifies that the applicant is spiritually, morally, and emotionally qualified to serve as a Character Development Instructor. The wing chaplain will the conduct a personal or phone interview with the candidate. Following the wing commander's approval, the appointment is made by National Headquarters.
