Chaplain, Lt. Col. George Dawson was born and
raised in Brooklyn, New York, NY. He came to California in 1964 while on active
duty with the Air Force. He was stationed at McClellan AFB,
(1964-1971) and Mather AFB, (1972-1978). He retired from
active duty with the rank of E-7 after 20 years service.
Chaplain Dawson was ordained to the Gospel ministry in June 1978,
at New Hope Baptist Church, Citrus Heights, CA. He is a graduate
of California State University, Sacramento (BA in Social Sciences.
1979), and Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Mill Valley,
CA (Master of divinity, 1982). He served as Senior Pastor
of New Hope Baptist Church, Citrus Heights, CA from Dec. 1977 to
Sept. 1990, and Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church, Lincoln,
CA from Sept. 1990 to June 2007 when he retired.
Chaplain Dawson joined CAP in June 1987, and was appointed a CAP
Chaplain in February 1988. He served as Chaplain of the Mather
Cadet Sq. # 14, Sacramento, from Feb. 1988 to April 1998. He
then served as Chaplain for the Lincoln Cadet Sq. # 65 from April
1998 to June 2000, and NorCal Group 5 Chaplain, June 2000 to the
present. He completed Level I and Level II, in 1987. He
has also completed Chaplain’s courses 221 (1992), and 221A
(1995), and Mission Chaplain’s course in Feb. 1999. He
has attended Chaplain’s Region Staff Colleges in 1996, 1997,
2001, 2003, 2004, and 2005.
Chaplain Dawson was awarded Level III and promoted to Major in
Aug. 1998. He completed Level IV in Dec. 2003 and was promoted
to Lt. Col. July, 2004. He has completed two Critical Incident
Stress Management courses, one in Nov. 1998, and one in Feb. 2001,
and the Pastoral Crisis Intervention course, Mar. 2005. He
received the Gill Robb Wilson Award, Jan. 2008.
Chaplain Dawson has received several awards they are: Senior Member
of the year, Group 25 (1989), Group 25 Chaplain of the year (1990),
and the Commander’s Commendation for July 1989-June 1991
(Group 25) and July 2001-June 2002 (Nor Cal Group 5).
Chaplain Dawson assists the Air Force Chaplain’s Corps by
performing funerals for retired military personnel, and weddings
for active personnel, attached to Travis AFB. He has also assisted
the AFROTC Staff of Detachment 088, Sacramento, with their Commissioning
ceremonies and Spring Military Ball. He serves as a volunteer
chaplain for the Sutter Roseville Medical Center, Roseville, CA,
and is active in Rotary International. He is a life time member
of the Military Chaplain’s Association. He holds a Private
Pilot license. He and his wife Eileen have been married 49
years and have five children and eleven grandchildren. He is
currently serving as the California Wing Chaplain. |
